One of two persons knocked down by a vehicle being driven by the Deputy Upper east regional minister, Daniel Awonwie Syme has died at the Bolgatanga regional Hospital. robert Abole, 37, who was riding a motorbike with a female friend, died at about 2:30pm yesterday due to the multiple injuries he sustained after the accident on Thursday night.

The female victim is currently responding to treatment, according to a report from the hospital.

The Deputy Upper east regional minister on Thursday at about 10:30pm was reported to have knocked down two persons on a motorbike on the Bolgatanga Navrongo road and sped off without reporting the matter to the police.

Reports said the minister was allegedly drunk during the incident.

The victims, according to one Kyeka Abole, were riding from town towards the regional hospital area when the Deputy minister knocked them down with his vehicle from behind in the outer lane.

At that point, Kyeka said the residents did not know the identity of the driver.

Some of the people at the scene jumped onto motorbikes and chased the vehicle but relaxed when they saw the driver make a U-turn at the regional House of Chiefs Junction, thinking he was coming back.

The minister sped off again prompting the people to give him a hot chase from the regional Library Junction to ojam Washing Bay, a distance of about two kilometers.

When they got to the ojam area, Kyeka said the Deputy minister was confronted in the presence of the police, but he claimed he knocked down donkeys with his vehicle.

'When we got him and asked why he was running away after the incident he told us he thought it was a donkey he knocked down,' Kyeka said. The victims were admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the regional Hospital in Bolgatanga.

Kyeka Abole, who is a brother to robert alias mugabe, said the businessman was riding with a female church member.

According to him, robert sustained multiple head injuries.

The regional motto Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) Commander, ASP Daniel Kwao Teye, ruled out drunk driving, but confirmed to DAILY GUIDE that indeed mr Syme knocked down the two persons with his vehicle on Thursday night.

According to the mTTU Commander, the Police were investigating the matter.

Efforts to contact the Deputy minister to comment on the matter proved futile as he refused to answer several calls placed to his phone.
