Ghana's economic challenges transient - Omane Boamah asserts

Communications Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah says the socio-economic challenges confronting the nation are transient.

He indicated that for an economy growing about six percent though plagued with challenges, cannot be said to be in crisis.

Dr. Omane Boamah who was speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme Friday, said given the measures put in place by government, the medium term prospects are brighter.

He attributed the economic challenges partly to "our middle-income status" and the structure of the economy which he says, is a structure of dependency rather than self-reliance.

The Minister underscored the need for a structural transformation to halt the recurrent economic challenges in the country.

This notwithstanding, Dr. Omane Boamah cited the seeming improvement in the energy sector  as the beginning of an economic recovery.

According to the Communications Minister, when the Kpong Thermal Plant, Navrongo Solar power project and others come on stream, the erratic power supply christened 'dumsor' will be a thing of the past.

He added that there has also been some stead growth in all sectors of the economy which is an indication that all is not gloomy “as some people want it to seem”.

“Government is working assiduously to fulfill all the promises made to Ghanaians because, President John Mahama is still the affable caring president we have known over the years”.

Dr. Omane Boamah warned of dire consequence if people he describes as doubting Thomases, continue to send panic signals that the economy is in crisis. Story by Ghana/Adomonline.com/Adwoa Gyasiwaa
