A 38-year-old doctor is alleged to have forcibly penetrated a 22-year-old lady (name withheld), last week Tuesday.

It was also purported that the doctor was very physical with the young lady. “The doctor fixed a blow to weaken the thighs in order to have easy access,” the lady's brother said.

The police have confirmed the alleged rapist admitted to committing the offence during interrogation.

A medical report from the Tema General Hospital revealed that the victim suffered tenderness on the right thigh and groin with some discharge in her private part. Also, the hymen was absent.

The victim's family is therefore seeking justice because they feel there is an attempt by the Tema office of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Police Service, to cover up the purported rape case.

Joy News' Francis Abban, who visited the family house of the lady, observed that she could neither walk properly nor speak well because of the brutal sex experience.

Her brother narrated that a doctor friend of hers, invited her over to his house where he forcibly raped her.

He continued that initially, she was unwilling to report the incident until he (brother) coaxed her to the police station where they both lodged a formal complaint.

They were then given a police medical form to the Tema General Hospital for thorough examination.

The brother claimed it has affected her education as a first year student at the university.

The suspect was reported to have threatened to tell the police that the girl was his girlfriend.

According to the brother, the investigator advised the lady to learn from what had happened, insisting her case was a feeble one and the Attorney General's Department would not even consider it a case to be pursued.

But the investigator, Superintendent Rebecca Nyarmah told Joy News investigations were on-going and the doctor would be processed for court sometime next week.

The Tema Region Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olivia Turkson also told Joy News they would ensure that the perpetrator was processed for court.

“We had taken her statement; we had issued her with a medical report to go to hospital. It's just that the investigator in this case is on course. However, the coordinator is making every effort to get the investigator to come and push the case to court,” DSP Turkson said.

The PRO noted she was unaware of a situation where the investigator insisted the case should be settled out of the police station.

“We will ensure that the right thing is done. In fact, this is not a case you can take out of the police station to go and settle. And for me, that's what they are alleging. I've not gotten the investigator to speak to, so I will hear his side. But it's not something the investigator can use his own power to say they should take the case out from the police station, no!” she explained.
