Stuttering start: Ophelia Swayne finishes last in 50m freestyle
25.07.2014 LISTEN

Ophelia Swayne will have to now focus on winning a medal in the 50m butterfly event after failing to qualify for the next stage in her 50m freestyle event on Friday morning at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Swayne who went into the competition as one of Ghana's best shots at a medal in the country's first ever participation in swimming in the history of the Commonwealth Games, finished last in her heat and thus missed out on progress in the event.

The 17 year old is one of five young Ghanaian swimmers hoping to gain experience at the Glasgow games and will again compete in the 50m butterfly.

'I want to drop my time and be better so that in two years I can win medals for Ghana. It is always scary at major meets and you never know what to expect but it is a good experience and makes one a better swimmer,' Ophelia already told Allsports.com.gh .
