DVLA Boss Frets Over 'Goro Boys'
25.07.2014 LISTEN

THE ASHANTI Regional Head of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Jacob Abagya, has described the activities of 'Goro Boys' in the region as distressing.

Mr Abagya recounted how many innocent people have been duped 'and how these imposters are enriching themselves at the expense of the State. I can hardly sleep in the night due to their illegal activities.'

He has, therefore, appealed to the police to implement pragmatic policies and mechanisms that would foil all the activities of the 'Goro Boys' so that State funds would not end up in the pockets of selfish and unpatriotic people.

Mr Abagya made the revelation when DCOP Kofi Boakye and other police capos in the region paid a courtesy call on him at his office, recently.

The visit was to enable the police commander to know the challenges facing the DVLA in the region so that the police could intervene.  The DVLA boss added that the police had in the past raided the DVLA office in Kumasi where scores of 'Goro Boys' were arrested, lamenting that the arrested people were eventually freed by the courts 'so they continued their illegal operations here.'

He disclosed that professional expertise of the police would go a long way to weed out 'Goro Boys' from the premises of the DVLA.

DCOP Kofi Boakye assured that the police would soon initiate pragmatic moves to render the 'Goro Boys' ineffective, but he was quick to add that 'the DVLA has an important role to play in order to defeat the activities of the 'Goro Boys.'
