The security agencies have been asked to be more vigilant at registration centres and Ghana's borders to prevent foreigners trooping into the country to acquire voter ID cards in the limited voter registration exercise set to begin on Friday.

The Students Network for Nana Addo (STUNNAD) who made the call claimed it have picked intelligence about foreigners who want to use ID cards issued by the National Health Insurance Authority to take advantage of purely a national exercise.

A statement issued by the group and signed by its national president Chris Arthur said it has dispatched “strong men” to the country's borders and some identifiable constituencies in the Brong Ahafo, Central, Western, the tree Northern regions and the Volta region where it claimed the NDC was planning to register foreigners and minors.

“We will resist any foreigner or minor who will try to use NHIS card to register,” it cautioned, adding, “We wish to WARN any non-Ghanaian to stay away from the registration centers or to make any attempt to secure voter ID card. We are aware of the plan and we will 'fight' them.”

STUNNAD also assured the leadership of the opposition NPP of its determination to assist in getting about 100,000 (hundred thousand) first time voters especially SHS students across the nation to be registered in the exercise in its quest to unseat the NDC in 2016.

“Our able members in the universities and polytechnics across the nation will move to some High Schools and communities with a bus to pick the students to the registration centers and bring them back to school,” it announced.
