Consultants at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have passed a vote of no confidence in the hospital's board and Acting Chief Executive Officer.

The consultants are asking government to dissolve the board, chaired by Eddy Annan and to sack the Acting CEO, Rev Albert Okpoti Botchway.

Their demand follows weeks of drama and controversy that have rocked Ghana's biggest referral centre.

The Korle Bu Staff Association has consistently demanded the removal of the CEO for alleged mismanagement, a demand the board chair has kicked against.

Last month, the former Health Minister Madam Sherry Ayittey announced the removal of Rev. Okpoti Botchway, only for her successor, Dr. Kweku Agyemang Mensah to reinstate him.

The Korle Bu Staff Association was angered by the action of the new minister but aborted a planned 'coup' to remove the acting CEO and the Board Chair, Eddy Annan.

They gave the new minister a one week grace period to address their grievances.

But the consultants are in no mood for truce. They have petitioned President John Mahama, demanding the dissolution of the Board and the removal of the CEO.

Part of the petition read: "We have no confidence in the current Board Chairman, Mr Edward Annan, the Board of Directors and the Acting Chief Administrator, Rev Albert Okpoti Botchway. They should be replaced immediately with persons whose primary objective is to provide a well run hospital that provides excellent care for patients, good facilities for clients and fair rewards for all staff and management."

The eleven-point petition was also copied to the new Health Minister and the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health.
