The Melcom Care Foundation (MCF), the Social and Charity Division of Melcom Group of Companies, has renovated the 37 Military Hospital's Maternity Ward in Accra at a cost of GH¢30,000.

MCF provided the renovation as a part of its efforts towards public service in the areas of health, education, and environment.

This specific project included new lighting, washrooms, ceiling fans, and other facility replacements for new mothers and their babies.

According to Godwin Avenorgbo, Director of Communication for MCF, the Maternity Ward was chosen because of its public accessibility and its significance to the community. Each priority goes through a screening and selection process, and the most important public causes are taken on.

Other recent projects undertaken by MCF included a $33,000 ambulance donated to 37 Military Hospital.

Mr Avenorgbo emphasized the importance of giving back to the community, stating, 'It is the duty of a good public citizen of Ghana. Corporate bodies in particular need to be good corporate citizens.' His also urged all companies to contribute to the MCF's overall mission of providing affordable and quality items to Ghanaians in the face of the harsh economic conditions.

According to Avenorgbo, the MCF's next priority would be a blood donation exercise to be held on July 30, 2014. This drive would be opened in every region and district in Ghana.

'The need is urgent. The blood banks are drying up. All Ghanaians should give just one pint of blood; they could save somebody's life,' he said.
