Letter To My President

Letter To My President
06.07.2014 LISTEN

Dear President John Dramani Mahama,

I think it's important to really look at the people's problems, try hard to solve them and stop the sweet talk. Many presidents have said they would do things, and didn't follow through i just hope you aren't. Money is a big issue these days. It's not really making the money from taxes, it's using the money that would be a great deal to the nation. We have to use our hard earned money on things like health care, education, utility bills and the economy as a whole . The problem isn't that we're spending money on those things, it's that how much of our do we spend our money on those things?

Health care is the biggest money-sucker. Why should we have to spend all our money on a health problem that may not even be our fault? Think of the people with malaria; they're not only dying, they're going broke too. Sure we could get our National Health Insurance working again, but health insurance isn't that costly as well, but today NHIS cards have become decorations in our pockets and bags. People now die day-in day-out due to the fact that things in this country are not been ran well. Once upon a time in this country there was something like free maternal care. Was that policy so big for your government? We shouldn't have to go to such great lengths to stay healthy and alive.

Education after high school is another serious issue. How are you supposed to get people to want to go into professions like lawyers, accountants and doctors, if they know they can't afford it? Even if they get student loans, they're usually in debt for years. Take my friend Karim for example; He wants to become a surgeon, but because he'll never be able to come close to affording any of that, He may just settle with something like acupuncture or massage . I hate how teachers want students to pick good careers, but they don't really mention how much that career is going to cost you. As president, you should be trying to lessen the cost of schooling, or maybe offer programs that pay for some schooling depending on your grades. I bet more people would want to go to school if they didn't have to worry so much about the money.Allowances for most teachers hasn't been paid, polytechnic lectures have been on strike for almost two months and what are you doing about it as a president. Cmon Tell us the truth. Why is school feeding on the verge of collapsing?

Money seems like the root to so many problems. Families go poor because many things are too expensive.A massive increase in utility tariffs, cement prices has shot up to over 100% within the last 8 months and there is even a shortage, the story of fuel is nothing to write home about and the Ghana Cedi has depreciated drastically pundits even say we would buy dollar at 4 Ghana cedis by the end of august. Minimum wage sometimes isn't enough to live on. Something needs to be done about the cost of everything in this country. We need to find a way to make things cheaper, and keep the economy growing.

As president, you gave us promises to so many things. Now you can't follow through with anything you promised. As a Northerner you have disgraced me and the entire Northern Family. Your Performance leaves me with nothing but a sadden disappointed heart. I just hope you perform to the maximum in the next two years.. Good Afternoon.
