A THREE-year-old boy lost his life in the early hours of Thursday at Akyem Ofoase in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region after a 5-bedroom mud-house in which he was sleeping with seven other people collapsed on them as a result of a heavy downpour.

Kofi Ankomah's head was said to have been hit by a portion of the falling structure, which killed him instantly.

Even though his father was among other victims who suffered various degrees of injuries, his mother was said to be away from home, passing the night in a nearby village where she had attended a funeral.

Among the victims was a threemonth- old-baby who miraculously survived the incident, although he sustained some injuries.

Kwesi Azor, an eyewitness who recounted the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said Kofi Ankomah was buried early Friday morning after his body had been retrieved from the collapsed building.

The victims were referred to the Akyem Oda Government Hospital after the Akyemansa Health Centre could not cater for them owing to the degree of their injuries.

The eyewitness said when the rains started in the early hours of Thursday, there were leakages in the roof which resulted in the corrosion of some parts of the building.

These led to cracks in parts of the building which eventually collapsed and trapped the occupants. Kwesi Azor said there were about three families resident in the building.

Kwesi Mensah, father of the deceased, could not speak to this paper when it visited the scene Friday morning.

At the time of filing this story, officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and personnel from the Akyemansa District Police were seen at the premises to assess the extent of damage.

The body of the deceased has since been interred.
