Groundnut Shelled

Prices for a bag of groundnut in the second week of June experienced dwonward adjustment in some markets. The commodity fell in both Techiman and Takoradi markets by 9 percentage points to close the week at GHS 320.00 respectively.

In Kumasi the commodity recorded its highest loss of 22 percent to close the week at GHS 280.00 from last weeks GHS 360.00. On the retail market, a kilo of groundnut gain 15 percent in Accra and was sold for GHS 5.20, however, it saw a reduction of 10 percent on the Techiman market to close the week at GHS 4.50.

Market watchers are saying the reduction in prices are due to the commodity getting moody and so traders wanting to sell off.

Fresh Tomatoes

Prices of the 52kg crate of tomato went saw hicks in prices this week. In Accra and Bawku, the commodity increased by 6 and 7 percent, moving the prices from GHS 340.00 to GHS 360.00 and GHS 75.00 to GHS 80.00 respectively per crate. It lost a point in Techiman to close at GHS 188.00.

Furthermore, in the Takoradi market, the commodity rose sharply to close the week at GHS 400.00 representing an increase of 33 percent.

In the retail market, a kilo of tomato gain 6 percent in Accra to close at GHS 7.11, 13 percent in Takoradi to close at GHS 9 and 25 percent in Bwaku to close at GHS 2.50.

It however lost 10 percent in Techiman to close at GHS 4.50.
