The 5-day exam began yesterday with an English (British) paper and will end Friday with an ICT paper across the country.

Examination centres visited included Tema and Manhean Senior High School centres, where a total of 945 and 291 candidates respectively were writing the examination.

Six candidates were absent from both schools for various reasons. At the Ashaiman Senior High School, over 584 candidates from 8 schools, wrote the English paper, while the Ashaiman Cluster of Schools presented 896 students.

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, speaking to a section of the media after the tour, disclosed that investigations would be launched into the death of two final-year students who reportedly left home on the eve of the examination with intent to check their index numbers and met their tragic death in the Tamale Metropolis of the Northern Region.

The two students, whose names were mentioned as Dauda Satayla and Abdul Wahab Zulaiha, were said to be students of Chogu Demonstration School in the Sagnarigu District who were riding on their motorbikes to TAMASCO when the accident occurred.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang expressed satisfaction about the conduct of the examination so far in the country.

The Education Minister was optimistic that the week-long examination would not be marred by malpractices.

She encouraged the candidates to be focused and deliver their best to attain good results, and wished them success.

The Minister entreated all supervisors and invigilators to ensure that the needed serene atmosphere was created at all times during the period of the examination.

Mr. Kwesi Hucthful, Tema Metropolitan Director of Education, who accompanied the Minister and Metropolitan and Municipal Chief Executives of Tema and Ashaiman, expressed the hope that the candidates would come out with flying colours because of the effective tutorials they had received.

He urged all candidates to conduct themselves properly in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the examination.
