The Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF) will in May and June this year, commission 41 infrastructure and social amenity projects in Newmont Ghana's ten host communities in Ahafo.

The projects worth GHC3,941,136.91 includes a recovery ward, nurses quarters, records department for a health facility, water and toilet facilities, teachers quarters, libraries, class room blocks, Information Communication Technology, (ICT) centres and a community Centre among others.

The commissioning will climax the Foundation's fifth anniversary celebration of Newmont Ghana's continuous commitment to sustainable community development in Ahafo.

The Board Chairman of NADeF, Kwame Saarah-Mensah, says the projects indicate improvement in the socio-economic status of the Ahafo Mine communities while lauding the traditional authorities for their support to the activities of the Foundation.

'This is Newmont's legacy to the children of Ahafo and I am happy Nananom and the entire Ahafo Communities support such an innovation. I am convinced in a few years, the status of the host communities will see tremendous improvement,' he stated.

Since its inception, NADeF has completed over 60 infrastructural and social amenity projects, including the soon to be commissioned projects in the ten Ahafo communities.

The Foundation has also awarded GHC5,306,073.01 worth of scholarship to 4,986 SHS and tertiary students as well as 499 apprentices throughout the ten Ahafo Mine communities while GHC285, 100.00 has been given as micro loans to 781 people in the communities to boost their businesses.

NADeF continues to create sustainable futures for the Newmont Ahafo Mine communities through partnerships with government, communities, civil society organisations and other development partners.

Established in May 2008, the foundation is Newmont Ghana's Ahafo Mine main driver of sustainable developments in its host communities.

Newmont Ghana has contributed approximately GHC29.7 million to NADeF for the execution of various projects - infrastructural and non-infrastructural.

Out of this amount, GHC6.7million has been invested as Endowment Fund to sustain the Foundation's activities beyond the life of the Ahafo mine.
