The house on fire, INSET: Debris of the house
A ferocious fire has destroyed property worth hundreds of Ghana cedis in a house in the Prestea Huni-Valley District of the Western Region.

The fire started around 6am on Sunday in a house allegedly belonging to a former fire officer in the district, Joseph Eshun.

All efforts by neighbours to extinguish the fire proved unsuccessful.

DAILY GUIDE gathered the inferno destroyed the house completely because the only fire tender in the district was being repaired, which made it difficult for the fire service personnel in the area to quench the fire.

According to sources, the fire personnel, who were at the scene to help quench the fire, had to use water from individuals around the area to douse the fire before a water tanker from the New Century Mines of Golden Star Resources moved to scene to help bring the fire under control.

Although the cause of the fire was not known, some residents noted that it was caused by power fluctuations.

The current District Fire Commander, DO2 Joseph Koranteng, commended his men for making sure that the fire did not spread to other houses in the vicinity.

In an interview, the District Fire Officer noted that immediately power was restored, people in the area heard a loud blast.

DO2 Koranteng gave the assurance that by the close of next month, the district fire tender would be ready.
