Moving Toronto NPP Chapter Forward

By Toronto NPP
Diaspora (Canada) Moving Toronto NPP Chapter Forward
MAY 8, 2014 LISTEN

In April 2014, the responsibility of stewardship fell on a new executive team to move the Toronto NPP Chapter forward. Over the past four (4) years, many of us attended our monthly meetings in anticipation of contributing to discussions of issues that confront our beloved native country, Ghana.
We did so in the hope that we can as a group, develop policies and ideas to shape the platform of the party (NPP) that we subscribe to because of its democratic principles, its fervent belief in the rule of law and its sound economic policies that ushered Ghana into the forefront of world admiration. We however lost the opportunity to make positive contributions with contentious debates and irrelevant arguments that resulted in the denigration of some members and unwarranted personal attacks on others. We also did not find enough time to work on strategies to strengthen and grow our Chapter, again, to the benefit of the NPP and Ghana.

Despite these difficulties, I have personally come to appreciate the passions and strengths of members that, if properly channeled, can yield great dividends to the benefit of the Chapter in crafting policies and programs that can enhance the living standards of our brothers and sisters at home. As the duly elected chair of our Chapter, it is certainly my role to provide the quality leadership that will elucidate the very best out of each one of our members in contributing positively to the affairs of the NPP Toronto Chapter.

I will not shirk this responsibility entrusted to me and my fellow executives. I confidently assure you that with your blessings, I will deliver the requisite leadership to drive us to achieve our goals without fear of those that may want to see us in a perpetual quagmire, a sentiment which should be the desire of our real opponents and not our fellow NPP members or supporters. So, in the next four (4) years, we intend to move the Chapter to a much higher level to enable it to have a positive impact on the NPP's burning desire to win the 2016 elections.

In moving forward to rebuild our Toronto NPP Chapter, I will emphasize unity of purpose in an effort to foster a congenial relationship amongst members for the common good of our organization. We need to “bury the hatchet”, knowing very well that our real opponent is not our fellow NPP compatriots. The NPP “tent” is big enough to accept all members with diverse viewpoints, from which we can harness core solutions to the problems of our embattled homeland. I therefore extend an invitation to all members, aspiring members and supporters to join us in a genuine spirit of cooperation, in rebuilding the Toronto NPP Chapter.

The year 2016 is not far away, and the NPP will soon be waging another battle to win the presidential and parliamentary elections in December of that year. As a Chapter, we need to proactively plan now to ascertain an overwhelming victory. We also need to formulate strategies to protect the vote and ensure the declaration of the win. In and around December 2014, the Toronto NPP Chapter will give unflinching support to whoever is chosen as our presidential “Flag Bearer”.

In our future meetings, we shall allocate significant time and effort to address the Ghana economy and the substantive issues necessary to improve the living standards of every Ghanaian. For us to be successful in 2016, we must address the aspirations of our citizens, give them hope, as well as empower them to participate actively in the development and growth of the Ghana economy, and in the protection and sustainability of the country's natural resources. These issues will form the core of our deliberations.

In this regard, I invite all members of the NPP Toronto Chapter and the many supporters of our organization to join us in our constructive deliberations necessary to formulate a winning platform in 2016. Your new Executive Team is committed to providing the transformational leadership that will ensure the exchange of “BIG” ideas in an environment characterized by true democratic processes, respect for each other, discipline and the rule of law. Let us put the past behind us and work tirelessly together to rejuvenate our organization to drive towards the goal of winning in 2016 so that we can impact positively in the lives of all Ghanaians.

Christian Kweku Akyempon,
Chairman – NPP Toronto Chapter.
