Accra, April 23, GNA - Mr Aquinas Tawiah-Quansah, Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, has disclosed that the Ministry is registering the fisher-folks, to ensure the fair and equitable distribution of premix fuel.

Mr Tawiah-Quansah, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra, said the exercise will help eliminate artificial shortage of the product often created by selfish fishermen.

He said, when completed, the exercise will enable the Ministry to know the number of fisher-folks in the various fishing groups or associations, and this in his view, will make it easier for the Premix Committee to know the quantity of premix to be allocated to each group.

He pledged governments preparedness to continue to subsidize premix, so that the fisher-folks can, at all times, purchase the product at an affordable price.

Mr Tawiah-Quansah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, advised fishermen to desist from applying negative and unapproved fishing methods, and to guard and protect the profession for posterity.

He further advised them to use rivers and the sea in a more judicious manner, in order to continue to stay in business.

Mr Tawiah-Quansah assured fisher-folks that the Ministry will ensure the prompt supply of fishing inputs this year, to enable the fishing communities experience a very successful fishing season.
