When And How, I Do Not Know. But All I Know Is: GHANA WILL SURELY WORK AGAIN

I'm just a young boy born in the early 90s and I do not know how Ghana was when it was “working” sometime ago. I'm too young to know. You and I were not there or were too young to remember anything when the big six and other heroes of our motherland were trying to create a better Ghana for us all and the generations unborn and I was not there to see a certain Jerry John Rawlings trying to cleanse the system of corrupt individuals and politicians.

But what I'm able to gather from the history books of our land and the tales from the older folks is enough to make me believe that Ghana, our beloved country was a real good place to live and Ghana was “working” when that doctor called Nkrumah and his gallant men fought so hard and gained independence from the colonial masters. A great deal of Ghanaians still hold the view that no government have matched the rate at which developmental projects and infrastructure was spread across the length and breathe of this country at the time this man was our leader.

Some of the notable achievements credited to his name were, the planning and building of Tema township which till date is one of the best if not the best organized cities in Africa, the Accra – Tema motorway which is no doubt the best road ever constructed, (I'm just assuming there is no pothole on it or is it a manhole rather?) The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the University of Cape Coast, the Komfo Anokye hospital in Kumasi which is one of the best teaching hospitals in this country till this very day.

(Just assuming there was no saga called the missing baby saga!) were major projects undertaken under his tenure. He also built a number of polytechnics and secondary schools across the country, not forgetting the Akosombo Dam! our biggest source of power and the Adome bridge despite the fact that it is closed now just because of the failure of our leaders to maintain it, to mention but a few and considering the fact that all these massive developmental projects and others were implemented within a period of 8years is really one of the wonders of mother earth. People even hold the view that Ghana was manufactured by Nkrumah in 8years and this only proves how dear people hold him.

But hey a certain Acheampong also was filled with great passion for development when he took over the mantle of leadership of our great country. Operation feed yourself was a very fantastic initiative which I think might still be useful today, the Dansoman estate was built by him, and the Kpong hydroelectric dam among other projects can only be executed by leaders with balls.

Not taking anything away from our current crop of leaders but all we see these days is uncompleted buildings and roads scatted all over, our airwaves are filled with corruption sagas and judgement debts brouhaha. It seems our leaders are simply just trying so hard to undo what our heroes have done for mother Ghana. The unemployment rate is at its peak unlike those days where university graduates had two or more job offers to opt from even before they packed their bags and luggage's and leave their various campuses (and was it true that university students once went on demonstration for eating too much chicken?) Ghana must be really gooooood! I commend the current government for securing the loan to revive the sugar factory having in mind this could equally be one of the unfinished projects scattered all over the country but for now, let us hope and pray!

I do not know how Ghana was when it was working, I do not know the quality of service provided by Electricity Company of Ghana and Ghana Water Company, and I do not know how tariffs were managed in those days and I do not know how often public workers go on strike when Ghana was 'working'.

I DO NOT REALLY KNOW HOW GHANA WAS WHEN IT WAS “WORKING” but ALL I KNOW IS GHANA WILL SURELY WORK AGAIN!!!
