ABOUT 1,000 widows and widowers from all over Ghana benefited from a donation of clothes and other items during the Easter festivities in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.

Dubbed 'Akunafo Kunu,' the presentation was done by Metro FM, a Kumasi-based radio station, to make the beneficiaries mark the Easter with joy.

Among the items presented were bags of rice, cooking oil, mattresses and footwears.

Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu/Juaben, presented the items at a colourful ceremony at Metro FM premises at Krapa.

Addressing the crowd, Mr. Yamoah Ponkoh showered praises on Metro FM's management for their largesse, urging them to sustain it.

According to him, the government alone could not cater for the needs of all the people, hence the need for the private sector to help.

Moses Antwi Benefo, aka PJ Mozey, General Manager of the radio station, said the items were worth GH¢20,000.

He said GH¢15,000 of the cost came from the coffers of Metro FM, while the station's sponsors and donors paid the extra GH¢5,000.

PJ Mozey revealed that his outfit embarked on the kind gesture to help mitigate the anguish that the widows and the widowers were enduring.

He said this year's edition was the second that Metro FM was organizing and promised to sustain the benevolent gesture in the years to come.

PJ Mozey urged corporate bodies and institutions to emulate Metro FM's example by extending a helping hand to the needy in society.

The event was graced by Tagoe Sisters and Anita Afriyie, who entertained the crowd with melodious gospel tunes.
