2 Lawmakers Killed In Somali Capital In Less Than 24 Hours

MOGADISHU, Somalia--A Somali parliament member has been gunned down in Mogadishu on Tuesday morning becoming the second lawmaker to be assassinated in the capital in 24 hours time.

The slain lawmaker identified as Abdul Aziz Isaq Mursal was shot dead by masked men armed with pistols as he left his home in Dharkeynley district south west of the city on Tuesday morning.

The MP was on his way to the people's Manson to attend parliament meeting to discuss on the national budget for the year 2014.

Eyewitnesses said that the killers escaped on a car after carrying out the brutal assassination.

Government soldiers including police and security forces rushed to the scene and conducted search operations to hunt the perpetrators, but no one has yet been arrested.

It was as on Monday morning when another lawmaker Isaq Mohamed Riino was killed in the heart of Mogadishu after a bomb assembled on his car went off while on his way to work.

Al shabab, the Al Qaeda-linked militant group has claimed responsibility for the the assassination of Somali parliamentarian and vowed to keep killing politicians and wreck efforts to secure the country.

The latest assassination comes as Somali government concluded a three-day national security conference in Mogadishu today.
