APR 19, 2014 LISTEN

Airtel Ghana's Kwame Gyan, who was last month suspended without pay for a post made on his private Facebook page, has contributed cash and items towards CITI FM's Easter Orphan Project. Kwame Gyan, who has since resumed work at Airtel, posted a picture on his social media pages making the presentation to a staff of CITI FM at the station's offices at Adabraka.

A caption accompanying the photo read:
“Okay so my birthday is in a few days (April 19) and we are also in the Easter season; so in the spirit of the double celebration, I made a little, 'widows mity' contribution to orphans and some underprivileged folks through the Citi 97.3 FM Easter Orphan Project. I will also spend some time on Easter Monday at one of the orphanages. Lots of things to be thankful for and the Old Man above has had my back my a very long time and I feel obligated to show love and appreciation in this way to Him”.

Although a former practicing journalist with both CITI FM and Joy FM, Kwame Gyan became a social media celebrity when his suspension from work for expressing issues on national affairs led to his suspension. He has explained that his status was twisted by elements that sought to gag him. His donation comes at a time when he is yet to receive his first salary after his suspension.

Kwame Gyan was a speaker at the recently held BlogCamp14 where he spoke about his experience and on other issues relating to the use of social media.
