Rainstorm displaces Ekumfi residents; Global Brigade donates to victims

Communities along the coastal belt of the Central Region that were hit with a heavy rainstorm continue to sleep in schools and churches a week after the disaster.

The heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds ripped off roofs of buildings and flattened a lot of structures including school buildings.

The situation has culminated in schools operating in make-shift structures to enable basic schools write their exams.

Affected victims who have been rendered homeless are still cramped in schools and churches waiting for some assistance from the National Disaster Management Organisationn(NADMO).

MP for Ekumfi, Abeku Crentsil, in narrating the seriousness of the rainstorm said some of the communities in his constituency have virtually lost everything.

"Some of my community members are virtually without what they will eat because all their food crops and their buildings were destroyed", the MP intimated.

Global Brigade, a non-governmental organization (NGO) touched by the plight of the affected communities donated roofing sheets, food  and other relief items valued at GH¢12,000 to support the communities to reduce the socio-economic burden on them.

Executive Director of Global Brigades Ghana, Ishmael Nana Asamoah who donated the items promised to provide some medical services to the affected communities to avert a possible outbreak of an epidemic. 

District Chief Executive for Ekumfi, Ibrahim Kwaku Dawson who also donated some items on behalf of the District Assembly to complement the donation by the NGO pledged to ensure that residents who have been rendered homeless are well catered for.
