GIMPA to tackle Ebola fears in public education seminar

Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) is organising a public education program on the deadly Ebola virus that has claimed lives in some West African countries.

The program comes off Thursday 17th April 2014 at  2pm at GB Auditorium on the GIMPA campus.

Ebola has already killed over 70 people in Guinea alone since the outbreak begun over a month ago. Cases have also been reported in Liberia and lately Mali.

There is no known cure or vaccine for the disease which causes victims to suffer haemorrhagic fever.

It is spread by close personal contact with people. Symptoms include internal and external bleeding, diarrhoea and vomiting.

Ghana got a scare after reports suggested the virus had infected one person in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital. But it was later discounted as false.

In view of Ghana's disturbing exposure to the virus, GIMPA is taking the lead in sensitizing the public to help reduce public panic.

Dr. Sallar, a GIMPA faculty member and an Epidemiologist with 19 years' experience in public health will be moderating the program.

He explained they will be showing a video followed by a question session from the general  public to be answered  by a panel of experts.

The panel will be composed of medical doctors, epidemiologists, and infectious disease control experts drawn from Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical  Research,  37 Military Hospital,  Nyaho Medical Center, and the Ghana Health Service. Story by Ghana|Myjoyonline.com|Edwin Appiah|[email protected]
