Wife disarms husband of locally manufactured pistol

The husband, Francis Nyarko, a bulldozer operator, was arraigned before the court, charged with threat of death, and possessing pistol without authority.

The accused person pleaded not guilty to both counts, and was granted bail in the sum of 5, 000 Ghana Cedis, by the presiding judge, Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo.

He will re-appear before the court on Monday, May 12.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Albert Adiita, told the court that the couple who had been married for years, reside at Nsu-akyir, a suburb of Samrebio in the Western Region.

He said on April 5, this year, at about 2100 hours, a quarrel ensued between them resulting in a fierce fight, and in the process the accused person pulled a locally-manufactured pistol and threatened to shoot his wife if she uttered a word.

DSP Adiita said Joyce mustered courage and disarmed the accused person, took the pistol to the Police station and lodged a complaint against him, leading to his arrest.

According to the prosecution, during interrogation, the accused person told the Police in the presence of the chief of Nsu-akyir, Nana Nkrumah that, he bought the pistol at 20 Ghana Cedis from one Amartey and his brother Ruff, who are now at large.
