NPP We Won For NPP 8211; Afoko
APR 15, 2014 LISTEN

Paul Afoko and Otiko Djaba
NEWLY ELECTED New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Paul Afoko, has stated that no group in the party can claim victory in the just-ended National Delegates' Conference, held at the Tamale Sports Stadium, at the weekend.

He said the party's delegates voted for people whom they believed could steer the affairs of the party without considering any other factors like factionalism.

'No slate won,' Mr. Afoko stated emphatically to debunk wild rumours, being spread by the NPP opponents to the effect that the party was sharply divided so the delegates would vote according to factions.

Just as the National Chairman dismissed victory for one camp over the other, re-elected Women's Organiser, Otiko Afisa Djaba, has equally rejected a statement linking her to Alan Kyerematen's camp saying she did not belong to any camp except that of the NPP.

He said the results of the elections were clearly an indication that the party's delegates voted for officials they confidently believed could lead the party to win the 2016 polls.

Speaking in an interview with DAILY GUIDE minutes after being sworn into office at the Tamale Sports Stadium, Mr. Afoko stated that he was happy about the way the delegates voted.

According to him, the elected party officials were picked from every part of the country, as if it were planned, stressing that nobody, group or tribe in the party could claim victory in the historic elections.

He said the entire party faithful should enjoy themselves because the delegates' pattern of voting at the event reflected Ghana and not a single ethnic group or culture, saying 'the victory is for the NPP.'

Mr. Afoko, who looked calm, insisted that the election was a family affair so the party supporters should see it as such.

Election 2016
The NPP Chairman said the 2016 national elections – to elect Ghana's next president and parliamentarians – looked promising for the party, and urged NPP members and supporters to anticipate victory.

He said the NPP was leaving the Tamale Congress as a united and strong political party that has the potential of wresting political power from the 'under-performing NDC administration,' headed by President John Mahama.

Mr. Afoko said from the manner in which the NDC was mismanaging the country's economy, there was no way the ruling party could retain political power when Ghanaians go to the polls in 2016.

The NPP Chairman said Ghanaians, after enduring extreme hardship under the NDC administration, are eager to vote out President Mahama and his team so that the NPP could restore the country to the path of prosperity.

Team Player
Mr. Afoko said he is a team player and so he would work in a peaceful atmosphere with all the elected NPP officials, adding that the party's leadership is united as one family with a common purpose of ensuring victory in a little over two years' time.

He pointed out that he and his executives were ready to work with the former officers of the party so that together they could strategize properly towards election 2016.

The NPP National Chairman said he had closed his eyes, ears and mind about whatever happened before the elections, saying, 'I am thinking about the future and not the past.'

He intimated that his major preoccupation was what he and his executives could do to make the NPP stronger and more attractive even to those who do not belong to it.

Mr. Afoko therefore called for unflinching support from the rank and file of the NPP so that the new leadership could realize their great ambition of leading the party to win the next polls.

Unity Crusade
Angry Otiko Djaba called into DAILY GUIDE offices yesterday attacking a statement allegedly made by Ben Ephson, editor of Daily Dispatch that she is Alan's candidate.

She said she is for the NPP and not any other group, and entreated people to stop the factionalism game.

She stated that she was embarking on 'nkabom' (unity) crusade to bring everybody on board. 'God has spoken to the delegates and they have chosen the right people; let all of us work for total victory in 2016.'

Paul Afoko and nine others were elected at the party's just-ended Delegates' Conference last Saturday to manage the affairs of the party for four years with the utmost objective of winning the 2016 general elections.

As has been stated above Mr. Afoko was elected  National Chairman; Freddy Blay, Sammy Crabbe and F.F. Antoh, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Vice Chairmen respectively; Kwabena Agyepong, General Secretary; John Boadu, National Organiser; Otiko Djaba, Women's Organiser; Sammy Awuku, Youth Organiser; Kwabena Abankwa Yeboah, Treasurer and Kamal Deen Abdulai, National Nasara Coordinator.
