A Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced Jacob Degbortse, a 31- year-old driver, to two years' imprisonment for stealing credit cards worth GH¢6,600. He pleaded guilty to the offence.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on November 30, 2013, Degbortse, who worked with Faanash Company Limited as a supplier of credit cards, absconded with the proceeds of the daily sales.

According to the prosecutor, the wife of the convict, Gloria Addison, a cleaner in the same company, also bolted after the husband was nowhere to be found.

She said on December 5, the complainant's husband spotted Gloria at Kwesimintsim, a suburb of Takoradi in the Western Region, and got her arrested and sent to the police station to assist the police to look for her husband.

Degbortse followed up to the police station and after giving an explanation to the officer on duty, he was arrested and his wife was released.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said the convict was brought to the Tarkwa Police Station and during interrogation, he admitted the offence and pleaded with the police that he would pay the money.

According to the prosecutor, after Degbortse had made part payment of GH¢3,100, he refused to pay the remaining amount and went into hiding.

Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah said on April 6, the convict was arrested at Apowa and was arraigned before court.
