The Convention People's Party (CPP) has ended its National Executive Council (NEC) Conference with another first on Ghana's political Landscape, the adoption of a fully electronic Membership Management System (MMS).

In her keynote address, the Chairperson and leader of the party was emphatic on the need to critically examine issues on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) because of their potentially negative consequences for our national sovereignty and the welfare of Ghanaians.

In line with her five point agenda, the CPP Chair said the party was at a very crucial moment in its forward movement and that one of the necessary steps to take at this point is for the party to accept electronic membership and dues payment as requisite for its re-organisation. Hon. Samia Yaba Nkrumah stated unequivocally that she is ready to resign her position if the National Executive Council fails to adopt the ground breaking proposal.

After an excellent presentation by the IT department of the Strategy Committee comprising Messrs Yaw Osafo, Nene Huago and Kofi Afram, the National Executive Council unanimously adopted the proposal for the implementation of the Membership Management System noting that it was a great tool for use in further re-organisation and re-energising the CPP.

This marks a milestone in political organisation in Ghana as the CPP becomes the first political party to introduce such major technological innovation into its operations.

The party, conscious of the need to secure its membership base, formalise and seek to guarantee dues payment instituted this innovative project soon after the new administration took over. The Strategy Committee team had begun its work in 2011.

The CPP was the first to elect a woman as National Chair, with two of the 3 National Vice Chairs also women.

The CPP is the party of Ghana's independence and noted as the “social conscience “of the nation with laudable social policies.

Reminiscent of the motion of destiny in Ghana's struggle for independence, the National Executive Council decided that all members of the party migrate to the new platform in three months after which polling station, other branch executive elections and national congress would be held.

The NEC is the biggest gathering of the CPP after its congress and was attended by National and Regional Leaders as well as representatives of party organs such as the Youth and Women's League as well as the Council of Elders.

In closing the Conference Hon Samia Yaba Nkrumah urged council members to embrace party activism and help mobilise party members towards the April 17th Anti GMO demonstration in Accra.
