MoneyGram affirms confidence in Ghanaian economy

Accra, April 1, GNA MoneyGram, one of the world leaders in money transfer with more than 20,000 points of sales in Africa, has reiterated its confidence in the Ghanaian economy and affirmed its interest in supporting the financial inclusion agenda.

Mr Peter Osher, MoneyGram International's Senior Vice President for Europe and Africa, who is in Ghana for a week- long duty visit said: Ghana is an important market for MoneyGram in our quest to achieve our objectives.

Through our strong partners, a reliable product and innovation, MoneyGram has added and continue to add value as it deploys its global market footprint to constantly deliver customer satisfaction.

He said that MoneyGram's impact in Ghana, over the last 20 years, had not only been limited to the delivery of safe, fast and convenient money transfer solutions, but that the organisation had developed and supported the regulatory bodies in their quest to curb fraud and other financial crimes.

Mr Osher noted that as a good corporate entity, MoneyGram had invested significant parts of its revenue in providing water projects for Asuboi, Somanya, Abokobi townships and the Wa School for the Blind.

MoneyGram has also donated (more than) 30,000 exercise books to primary schools in Ashanti, Central, Greater Accra, Eastern and Volta Regions since 2008," he said.

The Moneygram Vice President explained that the African remittance industry in particular is enjoying vibrant growth adding: MoneyGram is well positioned to provide remittance services to a growing community of customers."

He is accompanied by a high powered delegation of MoneyGram senior executives including Herve Chomel- Vice President for Africa, Juan Melendez - Retail Partnerships, Hal Gronfien - Vice President Marketing, Sabine Bauchau - Marketing Director, Africa, and Francois Peyret, Regional Director for North and West Africa.

The visit by MoneyGram International's top management is also to mark key achievements by MoneyGram Ghana in its 20 years of operations.

Key achievements include its 10 millionth transaction, network growth to more than 1,600 locations, partnerships with 20 of the leading banks in Ghana and impactful Corporate Social Responsibilities interventions.
