Ghana is a great and much envied tourist destination across the globe, Noted as the gate way to AFRICA, the local communities abound in many unique tourist attractions. Ghana can boost of having almost all facet of tourism from the north through to the south. One can talk of the rich cultural resources, our defined heritage resources, wildlife and landscape resources, events of various forms, sporting activities as well as well as the diverse man-made attractions.

Talking international, then our internationally acclaimed World heritage sites thus the Cape Coast castle, Fort St Jago, Elmina castles and the numerous villages and shrines in the Ashanti region would talk for themselves. The country is endowed with all the 3 “S” in tourism thus SUN, SEA and SAND, obviously these are basic resources the country, its citizens and tourists enjoy all year round.

The very beautiful setting of Lake Bosomtwe on top of a mountain in the Ashanti region, Ghana's largest, protected and well known national park Mole, the friendly monkeys at Tafi Atome and Buabeng Fiamey Monkey sanctuaries, the tallest water fall in West Africa Wli waterfalls amongst others are notable attraction that can be mentioned so far as tourism in Ghana is concerned. Indeed we are blessed as a country, ripe for tourism and geared for sustained tourism development.

Our cultural resource which is evident across the country more especially in the Ashanti region represents the dynamic character and historical experience of Ghanaians. It forms the fundamental part of our society and gives a unique identity that binds us together as Ghanaians as such, people travel much more frequently from all directions of the globe just to experience our rich unique culture.

Various events have come to stay within the Ghanaian community, Kwahu paragliding, Miss Malaika and other beauty pageants, Hall weeks of various forms, Night of 1000plus Laughs, Skelewu Night, Galaxy night , football matches etc, these amounts to a different category of tourism –events tourism which is gaining massive popularity within and without the boundaries of KNUST and Ghana.

Tourism is said to be multi dimensional as such there is no accepted description of what constitutes the tourism sector. In effect all sectors are directly and indirectly linked to the tourism industry, sectors such as the accommodation sector, aviation, transportation, eateries, banking and insurance all offer services to the tourist.

The tourism industry is a very stimulating one, so interesting an industry that what constitutes a Tourism resources/attraction is defined by the users (tourist). One cannot over underscore the benefits of Tourism to Ghana (employment, foreign exchange, income/revenue etc) neither can we ignore the threats and impacts (economic, socio-cultural, political, environmental, etc) it has on the country. We as Tourism Students in Knust believe that an effective management and adequate consideration of the tourism industry would be the guiding light to national growth and development in Ghana. Join us Sustain tourism development in KNUST and GHANA.
