Diaspora (Canada) Snow Storm Hits Toronto, Canada
MAR 12, 2014 LISTEN

Few hours after the predicted snow storm began to tape off in Southern Ontario Province specifically Toronto in Canada, crews were spotted driving their heavy duty snow plows clearing the dumps to make the roads safe for driving.

The City of Toronto snow plough crews starts to plough expressways after 2.5 centimeters of snow falls, arterial roads begins after accumulation of 5 centimeters of snow and local roads get ploughed after 8 centimeters fall of snow.

Six days after a down pour has disrupted the 57TH Independence Day Anniversary parade in Accra Ghana on 6TH March, 2014, a snow storm has been recorded in Toronto-Canada on March 12, 2014.

The difference is that though the torrential rain on 6TH March was predicted by the Meteorological Services Department, the president said the prediction came late and caught everyone unaware.

In Toronto-Canada, seven days prior snow storm weather alertness was issued by Environment Canada and on March 11, less than 24 hours for the snow to hit the area, a lot of awareness was created before it eventually came in.

Just around 6:15a.m on Wednesday morning, slight drops of freezing rain began to fall from the skies as was predicted earlier on which gave the indication of the snow storm coming on its way.

But it was not until some few minutes after 8:00a.m when the white flurries began to fall heavily was creating a build up of snow on the ground, roads, walk ways, and entrances of buildings.

By mid-day, the build up was so much that it created much difficulty for vehicular movements on the roads as the foggy nature of the weather made vision from between 80 meters to 100 meters impossible when driving or standing at one point.

As it was said in the earlier report, some employers and some supervisors in some companies had no option better than to ask their workers to close for the day and leave for home around mid-day for their own safety.

Somewhere around 2:00p.m heavy duty snow plough crews were spotted clearing arterial and local roads of the white debris after express ways and also sprinkling snow salt to melt the snow into water and created safe roads for drivers and pedestrians.

Mr. Trevor Tenn, manager of road operations at the City of Torontosaid the city has already spent an estimated 40 million to 45 million dollars of its snow budget since January 1.

According to him as it was reported by the 24 HOUR NEWSPAPER in Toronto, the city officials have a budget of around 85 million dollars for winter operations for the whole calendar year.

City of Toronto, planned on using around 130,000 tons of snow salt in atypical winter. So far this year, it has used 150,000 tons of snow salt already Mr. Trevor Tenn disclosed to the newspaper.

At the time of filing this report, the snow was just about to tape off completely and pave way for clear skies and sunny weather tomorrow but with cold temperature as predicted by the meteorologists.
