PNC would have made a respectable mark in 2012 if it had GH¢1.6m - Mornah

General Secretary of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah has described as baseless, claims that the national leadership of the party has squandered GH¢1.6 million meant for campaign in 2012.

He said it is “saddening” when unrecognized groups make such unfounded allegations to dent the hard earned reputation of the national executives.

“It is important we put a stop to this nonsense that is going on; it is becoming too much. We have destroyed the party enough; we should stop this destruction and move forward”, Mr. Mornah stressed .

Bernard Mornah was reacting to allegations by a group calling itself the Convention Forum, who are demanding the leadership to account for the GH¢ 1.6 million donated for the party's 2012 electioneering campaign.

Coordinator of the group, Akani Adam is demanding an independent inquiry into the matter.

The call to investigate the party's election finances has been backed by treasurer of the PNC, David Apasera, who has accused its 2012 presidential candidate, Hassan Ayariga of pocketing monies meant for polling agents.

But on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Bernard Mornah, who denied knowledge of the supposed GH¢ 1.6 million scoffed at the claims.

According t to him, if the claim by the youth group is anything to go by, “we [PNC] would have made a respectable mark in the [2012] elections”.

Bernard Mornah expressed shock at the position of the party's treasurer, who he described as a “mole” in the PNC.

“If you are a national treasurer of a party and there are information for the party executives, must third party hear it and start putting pressure?, he quizzed.

The PNC scribe urged members to exercise their freedom [of expression] with some level of maturity and caution in the interest of the party.

Bernard Mornah also called on the National Chairman, who is the leader of the party to stamp his authority and call the appropriate organs of the party to meet and put a stop to these “unnecessary things, which bring the name of the party into disrepute”.
