Community leaders of Hiawoanwu, a small farming community under the Ejura-Sekyeredumase municipality have bitterly complained about the seemingly uncontrollable pace at which JHS graduate girls are getting pregnant in the area.

The area keeps recording high number of pregnant school going children who are mostly JHS graduates and SHS one(1) girls.

The headmaster of Hiawoanwu JHS, Mr. Habib Isaku revealed that irresponsible parenting and sheer negligence are the main causes of this emerging scaring canker.

He continued that parents refusal to provide basic needs for their girl child and sometimes lack of intensive monitoring, levels the ground for teenage pregnancy.

"A times, some parents don't give their children daily pocket money for school therefore those who have boyfriends would resort to them", he further stated.

However, some of the children (mainly boys) on the other hand alleged that it is rather "young teachers" in the school who are having affairs with the students.

On his part, the assembly member of the area, Hon. Yakubu Osman, revealed that plans were far advanced to put measures in place to curtail the problem.

He advised parents to see their children as their assets and future guardians.

Hon. Yakubu Osman also encouraged them to give their children good advice, to stay away from bad friends, smoking, prostitution and other juvenile delinquencies.
