A Letter To The Year 2013

A Letter To The Year 2013
06.01.2014 LISTEN

Dear Mr. 2013
It is of great pleasure and honour to be part of your wonderful 365 days of journey, a journey of ups and downs, even though we had little challenges in the middle of our journey, but that cannot over shadow the good works you have brought to us as a nation. I am going to be brief because I have another letter for Mr.2014.I want to inform him about my resolution for the coming journey we are about to embark with him.

Mr.2013, first of all I must recommend you for healing the wounds in our heart when our sitting president and a former vice president were killed by Mr.2012. We thought the magnitude of the shock that we had with regards to the demise of this prominent men can never be forgotten, but you proved to us that indeed time is healer of all wounds. On behalf of the people of Ghana we would like to express our unalloyed gratitude for this wonderful gesture. Right from beginning of our journey I was very optimistic you are going to make history. The swearing in of the 4th John as a president is a history that cannot be forgotten.

Mr.2013, the people of Ghana have not forgotten the unprecedented experience you brought into our political front. The Supreme Court case that drove the whole nation into a prayerful mode came to an end successfully without a chicken losing it feathers.Your son Mr. August, became a very hot man during the supreme court issue because he never enjoyed any conversation during that period, every conversation that was brought up was basically to allow people show their legal prowess .Thankfully, your 9th born Mrs. September really proved to the whole world she is for peace and will do everything to make sure her good name is captured in history as a peaceful month and indeed that aim was achieved when the final judgement of the case was pronounced .

Dear Mr.2013, the fact that we have acknowledge the good works you have showered on us does not mean you never faulted in the 365 days journey we had with you. The issue of market burning characterizes our journey and is worth mentioning here so Mr.2014 will take precautionary measures when we start the journey with him. Most market women lost their jobs and properties during the journey, and it really affected livelihood. Many wept to mourn their lost goods, mothers lost hope and fathers nearly run from their fatherly responsibilities. The issue of market burning has left stains of bad reputation on your garment and we hope your junior brother Mr.2014 will not repeat such an unbearable situations.Even though the public was not served with the findings of the committee that was charged to investigate the causes of the fire we still hope they have find a lasting solutions to it.

Economically, You bombarded us with different economic terminology, the very few that still echoes in my mind are single digit inflation, relative stable currency against major trading currencies and improved budgetary positions etc. Sir,the remnant of the economics I studied in school tells me all these words are words that describes a positive economy. The logic question to ask then is: If Ghana's economy is on such an inspiring path, should it not be creating jobs, raising people's standard of living and improving the welfare of its people? We would like to have an answer on this Mr.2013

The issue of Unemployment is a major problem your journey brought to many homes in the country, Sir, I have some confusion in my mind and I hope you enlighten me when you reply me. I would like to know if it is possible for an economy that has been reputed to be a lower middle income nation, suffer high unemployment rate where young graduate from universities, polytechnics colleges etc. are walking on the streets of Accra with their bags full of their curriculum vitae?

The issue of security became important during the journey, we enjoyed relative peace and stability during the journey, even though we experience little tribal skirmishes in some part of upper east region and Volta region, the investment you made in your policemen really brought those skirmishes under control. The issue of armed robbery was curtailed to an appreciable level through our journey, but is our fervent wish to see all armed robbers in Ghana becoming Imams and pastors in 2014.

Sir, the issue of sports is also an important part of our journey that is worth capturing in this letter. We started the journey quite well with the performance of the senior national team at the African cup of nations, even though we were not able to clinch on to the ultimate cup. Our ladies' team also put up a thumb up show through the journey, the qualification of the women under 17 team to the world cup is very remarkable.

You also did your best to qualify the senior national team for the world cup in 2014 in Brazil. Most of football enthusiast were thrilled with the performance of the under 20 team in Turkey. I have a passionate appeal to make in this letter, please Mr.2013 kindly, advice your junior brother to give us the best of treatment In Brazil since he is going to spearhead that journey. We can't afford to come home. The finals of that tournament must feature the great Black stars of Ghana.

.
Sir, I still remember I indicated this letter is going to be brief, but a lot has happened that needs to be captured either for appraisal or admonition. With regard to entertainment, you really made us proud as Ghanaians, the birth of Azonto and al Qaeda dance really entertain music and dance lovers to the max.The strong influence of this music changed the dancing style of the youth of Ghana.

A dance that made old people wish they were young, a dance that changed the music style of musicians. This very dance you introduce during the journey to me is unromantic because it does not allow a “couple holding style” of dancing. All the same we are grateful. We can't wait to see the new dance your junior brother 2014 will invent for us.

At this juncture we would like to thank you for sailing with us successfully to a different journey we are about to experience. I pray we improve on our positive attitudes and relegate those that will bring destruction to ourselves and the nation at large .To every family that was hit with death during the 2013 journey, may the soul of the departed rest in peace and to every family that welcome a new baby we pray they become asset to the nation in future. To all couple that divorced during our journey we say big shame to them, and any young man or women who tied the knot we say God bless your union. Thank You Mr.2013.

Yours Faithful Citizen
