Parliament to rise next week Friday

Accra, Mar. 5, GNA- Parliament is expected to rise "sine die" next Friday, March 12.

Mr. Felix Owusu-Adjapong, Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs announced this when he presented the Business Statement for the eighth week, ending Friday, March 12, 2004. He said the House would continue with its extended sittings to enable it approve the 2004 budget estimates to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Other financial matters that the legislature would also deal with during next week include a loan agreement between Ghana and the Saudi Fund for Development for 10.5 million US dollars to finance the Madina Junction-Pantang Junction section of the Tetteh Quarshie-Mamfe Road Project.

A credit agreement between Ghana and AB Svenski Exportkredit of Sweden for an amount of SEK 5,876,416 (Swedish Kroner) to finance the System Control and Data acquisition (SCADA) Projects, would also be considered.

Members of the house later called for political tolerance, unity and even distribution of development projects as Ghana enters its 47th year.

They were contributing to a statement made by the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Captain (Rtd) Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey to commemorate the 47th independence celebrations.

The Deputy Minister paid glowing tribute to the founding fathers of the nation and said leaders of the nation including President J A Kufuor and former President J.J. Rawlings deserve praise for their contributions to the building of this nation.
