Most veterans in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, are said to be struggling to secure accommodation.

The unfortunate veterans were evicted when work on the Kumasi Sofoline Project started some years ago.

But after their ejection, no mechanism was put in place to properly accommodate them.

Most of them have been rendered homeless so they put up with family and friends.

Ex-Sergeant Osei Kwadwo, a veteran, disclosed this pathetic story to a section of the media on Monday after the 4 Garrison Remembrance Day Service held at the Cenotaph, Adum.

Ex-Sergeant Kwadwo said luckily he was not evicted during the exercise.

He therefore appealed passionately to the government to quickly intervene so that the homeless veterans would be properly accommodated.

Ex-Sergeant Kwadwo noted that during the Sofoline eviction, some of veterans were relocated to the Ghana legion in Kumasi.

Ex-Sergeant Kwadwo recounted the leading roles that the ex-service men played to develop the country.

He was particularly happy with efforts to lift the image of the military in the country.

According to him, the government and the people of Ghana should take proper care of the ex-service men.

On his part, Ex-W1 S.K. Boadi, a veteran, appealed to government to help them gain access to proper healthcare.

He also complained bitterly about the accommodation problems veterans were facing, calling on government to come to their aid.
