The 5 th Annual West Africa Trade & Commodity Finance Conference comes off today at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra under the sponsorship of Stanbic Bank Ghana.

The conference, geared towards bringing together persons and corporate entities within trade and commodity finance to learn new trends in sustaining their businesses, has drawn participants from corporate organizations including investors, insurers, lawyers and policy makers to project Africa as a viable trade hub mainly in the mining, oil and gas sectors.

Managing Director of Stanbic Bank, Alhassan Andani, speaking to reporters in Accra at a pre-conference briefing, noted that Stanbic Bank was delighted to bring the Trade and Commodity Finance Conference to Ghana for the second time to discuss key issues on global trade and commodity finance.

He said since West Africa is one of the most vibrant markets in terms of global trade, the conference will also expose traders in the sub-region to investors and policy makers in a bid to boost intra-regional trade.

Various speakers will explore opportunities within the commodity markets, infrastructural development, commodity trade flows, foreign direct investment, as well as the impact of global markets on Africa among others.

They include Anne-Marie Woolley, Director & Head of Trade Finance, Standard Bank, Africa; Seth Terkper, Minister for Finance & Economic Planning; and Joe Mensah, Chief Executive Officer, Ghana International Bank.

At the end of the conference, it is expected that new ways of managing issues on the impact of monetary and fiscal policy and trade barriers will be identified to make a strong case for Africa's viability as a hub for trade in the world.
