Though Nadal conceded his first hardcourt loss of the season, he will nevertheless snatch the World N°1 ranking published on Monday at the expense of Djokovic.
The Serbian did not seem frustrated by his ranking and congratulated his counterpart who will return to the top of the rankings for the first time since July 2011.
“I have to say congratulations to Rafa because he deserves definitely to be number one of the world this year with the season that he has had,” admitted Djokovic after the match.
With this win, the 26-year-old Belgarde-born player becomes the first four-time winner of the tournament after his 2009, 2010 and 2012 wins.
