Stop land guard activities — Ayikuma chief warns

The occasion was also used to outdoor a 42 year-old businessman at Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Mr Francis Agudu as the development chief of the area under the stool name, Nene Narh Agudu.

He swore an oath of allegiance to the Ayikuma Chief and pledged to abide by directives of the Chief of the area.

Addressing the people, the chief of Ayikuma, Nene Nartey Ahujaga Asafo-Adjei III appealed to his people to help maintain peace in the area.

He noted that of late, certain people of the Ayikuma area formed armed gangs and land guards whose activities not only plundered the land with unsuspecting developers, but also made life uncomfortable for both developers and all citizens of the area.

Nene Ahujaga said Shais (the people of Shai including Ayikuma) were law-abiding and peaceful people and appealed to such people to comport themselves and not to provoke the area into unnecessary violence.

'The activities of the armed gangs and land guards are scaring investors and developers in the area and this is not good enough' he stressed.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Shai-Osudoku, Mr Emmanuel Anyemi Lartey stressed the need for unity and development in the traditional area.

He said in unity, they could tap the natural resources that were abundant within the Shai area.

'If we strive to live in peace and harmony at all times, we can put our energies and ideas together to embark on development related ventures for the mutual benefit of all', Mr Lartey said.

He explained that the engagement of tugs for protection of one's property was against the law and called on those who engaged  in such activities to desist from it.

Mr Lartey also urged them to iron out any existing differences which had the tendency of plunging Ayikuma into conflict.

On development project in the area, Mr Lartey assured the people that the District Assembly would soon complete the work on the Ayikuma Roman Catholic School Project as well as the CHPS Health Centre.

The Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku, Mr David Tetteh Assumeng, on behalf of the President expressed appreciation to the people for the confidence reposed in him and the President during the last elections.

He said all arrangements were made for work on Ayikuma-Doryumu road to be completed in order to promote and enhance their economic activities.

He pledged to collaborate with the new development chief to build a library facility for the community to enhance quality education delivery in the area.

A Sixty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢60,000) Community Centre Project sponsored by the new Development Chief, Nene Agudu for the Ayikuma community christened 'Eva Memorial Community Centre' was inaugurated.
