The community continues to dump refuse at a refuse dump close to the salt pond sites, thereby making it unhygienic for salt winners to win the salt.

The stench from the refuse is also detrimental to the health of the salt winners.

The Chairman of the Obrempong Dantsi Royal Salt Winners Association at Srafa, Nana Ababio said the situation was disheartening and was having some very worrying consequences on the lives of the salt winners.

He said after some assistance from the Business Sector Advocacy Challenge (BUSAC) Fund, the association had made several appeals to the relevant authorities but the situation had not changed.

'Now the salt we win is discoloured. We cannot go on with the salt winning and it is affecting the incomes of the more than 30 members in the community. Life is not the same.'

He indicated that many of the salt winners had stopped winning, since it was difficult to get buyers for the salt due to its discoloured nature.

He said some of the youth who were also engaged in salt winning had migrated to other bigger towns in search of non-existent jobs.
