12.09.2013 LISTEN

Interestingly, without sponsorship, another football season is here again as the 2013/2014 Ghana Premiership League first round of matches' match day one kicks off at the league venues over the weekend. This season's league will be the 54th edition since its inception in 1956. On the other side of the coin there was no championship in 1957.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak are the most successful clubs that have won the league titles; 22 times for Kotoko, 20 times for Hearts of Oak, not forgetting AshantiGold who has won it three times, Great Olympics- twice, Eleven wise, Real Republicans, Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs, Sekondi Hasaacas, Berekum Chelsea now FC Berekum and Aduana Stars all have one premiership trophy to their credits.

Traditionally, after series of pre-season matches embarked upon by the 16 clubs ahead of Ghana's 2013/2014 Glo premier league which kicks off today; would it be dominant sides Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Accra Hearts of Oak, , AshantiGold, Berekum Chelsea now FC Berekum Aduana Stars, Medeame SC, or Scientific Soccer lads Liberty Professionals standing tall at the end?

Or premiership returnees Hasaacas, Bechem and newly promoted Inter Allies in to cement a position in the top flight.

Scientific soccer lads Liberty professionals will be at home and invite Kwesi Nyantakyi's men Wa All Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium to face each other on today whiles the bulk of matches take off on Sunday. A loss for Liberty will not bode well for them.

Defending Champions and Super Cup winners, Kumasi Asante Kotoko will begin their title defence away from home against bogey side Aduana Stars in Sunyani in the first fixture of the 2013/2014 season. Kotoko might want to start the season on good note to sound a word of caution to the other teams while one time champions Aduana Stars will also not leave any stone unturned. It would be a make or break for either teams.

Premiership returnee Bechem United will come face to face against sensational Coach Baba Ali Mohammed boys Amidaus Professionals at the Bechem Park. Will it be a mere formality for Amidaus Professionals?

Ashantigold will make a journey to Kpando to honour 2013/2014 GPL match day one as visitors to the borbor boys Hearts of Lions who finished 13th last season in match labeled as the end justifies the means.

At the Gyamfi Park, New Edubiase will host visitors Accra Hearts of Oak dubbed as 'a match fit for the gods'. Both teams would like to start their campaign on a good cause.

The 'African Blues' and second place from last season, Berekum Chelsea now FC Berekum league will be at the Golden City Park and welcome evergreen, Alhaji Karim Grusah's lads King Faisal to battle it out for all three maximum points at stake at Berekum. A win for Chelsea will not bode well for King Faisal from Kumasi.

At the Accra Sports Stadium, newly promoted side Inter Allies will pitch camp against mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs. It will not be a promising start for Dwarfs if they loose out to baby Inter Allies.

Elsewhere another returnee and giant from the west, Sekondi Hasaacas might attempt to do the do as they play as host to last season's third place and current MTN Cup champions Medeama SC. However both teams have what it takes to upset the applecart.
