The Oak Tree Of Ghana's Politic

A tribute to Prof Evans Atta Mills
The Oak Tree Of Ghana's Politic
24.07.2013 LISTEN

Since the demise of that wonderful Oak tree that rested in the centre of our political forest , the tree that provided shades for many, that the tree is no more, the sun has the guts to scorch and burn our precious African skin, because the hero that shade us has embark on unreturned journey, the Sun has subjected us to think of alternative means to protect ourselves.

The demise of the Oak tree has not only send the whole world into a state of melancholy but It has also edify us and thought us lessons that memories will never allow to evaporate into the air of time.. The great tree of the political forest has finally come down, The tree that is located at the centre of the political forest of our noble country, the very tree that provided shade for all manner of people irrespective of their tribe, religion, political and even race.

That gargantuan tree that went over board to help other tree to process their photosynthesis. You never fell because you were weak, you never fell because the vilification was too much for you, you never fell because your opponents were too though for you, neither will I attribute your falling to cancer. You fell because you have accomplished the very reason of your existence.

When memory takes me through a retrospective journey of the late President, it brings tears to my eyes because he was the oak tree that bear fruits that caters for other families, the tree that is eschewed from nepotism, favouritism, and selfishness. When my mind sends me to my memory lane back to the day, I received that shocking news that made me behave like a intoxicated rabbit and after I regained consciousness I said to myself indeed death is a cup for all of us, and one day we shall drink from it. If honesty, love for ones nation and intelligence are immune to death, then Prof would have been a respectable immortal.

On that faithful day the womb of life ushered you to the Political world, your presence immediately illuminated every dark part of our political world. The light of your experiences did not rest only in your bosom, but you made an unrelenting and selfless effort to impact them into other souls, your good work is monumental and no amount of decades that pass, can erode that memory from us. You did not only scribble your name in political pages of our country, you equally carved an enviable niche in every aspect of your endeavour. The detergent that washed the stains of our political cloth, the broom that swept the dirts of our political rooms, and the flower that beautify our country.

We have no reason to be sad, we have no reason to worry, but we have reason to remember you any time and any day, because egalitarianism was the order of the day during your reign as a president of this nation, The churches, the schools, and the mosque will miss your presence and contributions, your absence is conspicuously missing in the sports world. Again, we are hopeful of emulating that admirable life you lived, because you left us with a blueprint of your life and also impacted some knowledge into some student that are of benefit to us now.

They say, an army of deer led by a lion is more fearful than an army of lion led by deer, your honesty, generosity, gregariousness, loyalty and above your religiousness made you the 'The Lion' that made other countries respect our nation. What made you a unique hero is that you did not only promote your virtues, but you lived them out as well, regardless of the consequences. That is the quality that few of our politicians can honestly match.

If we could have a lifetime wish for a dream that would come true, We would pray to God with all our heart for a yesterday and you. A thousand words can't bring you back, We know, because we have tried that ; And neither will a million tears, We know, because we cried. You left behind our broken hearts and happy memories too .But we never wanted memories, We only wanted you. You lived well and you shall rest well. Professor, John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills May your Resting place be happier than your life in this world.
