The Bohye Church and some residents of Haatso, a suburb of Accra, are facing a severe 'landguards' security threat, which has brought activities in the area to a standstill.

The situation has come about due two groups fighting over 60 parcels of land sold to the church almost 20 years ago.

According to the Pastor of the church, Rev. Joseph Ashanti, in telephone interview with the Accra File on Wednesday, the 60 parcels of land was bought from the Odanoton family of Teshie, and registered it with the necessary institutions.

He indicated that they bought about the land two decades ago, and never any problem of any individual or group claiming ownership of the land, until recently, when landguards started attacking and destroying their properties.

He said a different group called the Narhuman family approached them three years ago to claim ownership of the land, which has resulted in both parties going to court.

Although, an injunction had been placed on the land, landguards continue to harass the church and other private developers embarking on developmental projects.

Pastor Ashanti said checks at the various land registration institutions authenticate them as the sole owners of the land.

He said that the landguards burnt portions of a school belonging to the church, and some teachers severely beaten. 'All the church is seeking for is security, protection, and intervention to bring calm to the area before and after the court settlement.'

He said the issue had been reported to the national, regional, Madina, and Haatso police stations, but no positive action had been taken to avert the continuous harassment and threats by the 'landguards.'
