The President of Soka Gakkai International (SGI), a lay Buddhist organisation, Dr Daisaku Ikeda,  has commended Ghana for the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the country.

He also praised Ghana and Africa as a whole for the rapid economic growth.

A release issued by the organisation said Dr. Ikeda gave the commendation when President John Dramani Mahama met with him in Japan before the fifth Tokyo Conference on African Development (TICAD V) held on May 3, 2013.

According to the release, during the interaction President Mahama said the relations between Ghana and Japan were very close and that the Soka Gakkai International (SGI) had played a very vital role in its sustenance.

President Ikeda further noted that Africa's new leaders were filled with the new spirit of  rebuilding  nations.

In a related development, The SGI President has composed a poem in honour of Africa which, according to him, was 'written out of my boundless love'.

To manifest his love for Africa , the President of Soka Gakkai International devoted to peace, culture and education dedicated the poem to Africa to encourage Africans and Ghanaians in particular to stand firm and work hard for progressive achievement .

Parts of the poem read:  ' Africa, my treasured friend, I respect you from my heart, Africa, motherland of all humanity! The twenty-first century will be a century of Africa, those who suffer most earn the right to the greatest happiness, Africa, you are the light that shines with a great mission to change the history of humankind'.

Dr Ikeda was of the view that 'there may be fading days of sadness and misery, and nights of anger and despair, yet, my friends, let us talk quietly under the moonlight; let us gaze at the Milky way, when times are trying, have hope! hope is of essence; nothing more is vital! therein lies the indomitable spirit of Africa'..
