Minister urges BECE candidates not to cheat

Koforidua, June 19, GNA - Ms Helen Adjoa Ntoso, the Eastern Regional Minister, has cautioned candidates writing this year's Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) to refrain from any form of examination malpractice.

She urged them to revise their notes well in order to improve upon the performance recorded in the region last year.

'Last year, the region recorded 54 per cent passes but we want you to shoot this up to over 80 per cent this year but as much as possible we also want to record zero cheating,' she said.

Ms Ntoso was speaking to the candidates at some selected examination centres in the region.

She was accompanied by Ms Adriana Kandelige, the Regional Director of Education, and chief executives of the respective districts or municipalities.

The Minister's first point of call was at the Ghana Secondary School examination centre in the New Juaben Municipality in Koforidua where 235 candidates are writing.

She later visited the Nkurakan M.A. School, the Yilo Krobo Senior High School (SHS) in the Yilo Krobo District where a total of 1,142 are sitting for the examination.

Ms Ntoso and her entourage also visited some schools in the Lower Manya District.

This year a total of 35,552 pupils in the region are sitting for the examinations, which will end on Friday at 72 centres.

Ms Kandelige encouraged the candidates not to end their future dreams after the BECE but to yearn to further to the University to become valuable assets to the nation.
