Supreme Court Justices Must Remain Fair And Firm

The Coalition of Ghanaian Voters wishes to urge the Justices of the Supreme Court to remain fair and firm in dispensing their duty to mother Ghana. We believe that the Justices are mindful of the fact that justice emanates from the people and shall be administered in the name of the Republic by the Judiciary which shall be independent and subject only to the Constitution.

Our call is in response to the overt and covert efforts being made by supporters and sympathizers of petitioners to impugn the integrity of the court. Clearly, surrogates of the petitioners including the Let My Vote Count Coalition have again confirmed our suspicion of a plot to pressure the court to act in a certain way.

We find it rather pretentious that a group which is in support of an unjustified effort to annul the votes of 4.6 million Ghanaian citizens, who have done no wrong, will purport to reflect the interest of those same citizens.

It is becoming obvious that an effort is in place to discredit the court and to promote a violent rejection of a verdict that goes against the petitioners. We are therefore not surprised that Let My Vote Count is invoking the Kenyan conflict after that country's 2007 election as part of its effort to intimidate the Justices of the Court.

The trend is clear and most Ghanaians remember the inciting statements made at events arranged by Let My Vote Count. Unlike Let My Vote Count, we believe that Ghana will remain peaceful, stable and united regardless of the outcome of the petition hearing.

Our Coalition continues to believe that the right to vote is absolute and that the vote of one citizen should not be annulled on the basis of selective analysis and subjective definitions.

We remain convinced that the Electoral Commission of Ghana organized a free, fair and transparent election on the basis of which it declared His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama as the validly elected President of the Republic of Ghana based on valid votes cast on December 7th and 8th2012.

We again want to use this opportunity to caution against pronouncements seeking to foment trouble and to call on the security agencies to maintain the utmost vigilance.
