France Open French Learning Center For GAF In Tamale

On Monday, June 10th, the Ambassador of France Frédéric Clavier graced the grand official opening of the French Learning center of 6 Garrison in Tamale, with the deputy Minister of Defence, Mr. Ebenezer Okletey Terlarbi.

France has had a long cooperation with Ghana Armed Forces. This cooperation in French learning meets an initial requirement from the Ghanaian Government, which has early expressed the need of a better knowledge in French language. As for the Ministry of Defence, the commitment of the Ghana armed forces in peacekeeping operations reinforced the importance of the ability to interoperate with francophone contingents and populations.

Five French Teaching Centres are already operational for several years. It started with the opening of the first center at Burma Camp in 2005 and was followed by centers at the Military Academy in Teshie, at the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Training Center in late 2007, in Sekondi in 2008 and Kumasi in 2010.

These actions show France's intention of making possible for a maximum of personnel from Ghana Armed Forces to attend French classes. 'At a time when Ghana is associate member of La Francophonie since 2006, when the French teaching is increasingly a priority in the Education system, I would like to express my firm conviction to serve Peace through the opening of these centers, because learning a foreign language is always a mean to facilitate the links between people. I wish that this new center will be a useful tool in the service of Peace' said the Ambassador of France.
