Accra, Dec.31, GNA- The National Chief Imam, Sheik Nuhu Sharabutu, Regional and District Chief Imams, National Council of Muslim Chiefs and the entire Muslim Ummah in Ghana on Wednesday expressed their condolences to the government and people of Iran on the earthquake that hit the historic city of Bam last Friday that killed more than 30,000 people.
A statement issued by the Office of the National Chief Imam and signed by Alhaji Awaisu Bio, Public Relations Officer, said " we pray to Almighty Allah to grant his mercy onto the souls of our departed brothers and sisters and also reward them with his 'Jannah'".
It also called on the Regional, District and Zonal Chief Imams to offer special prayers for the departed souls and appealed to Muslims to donate in cash and kind to cater for the victims.
The statement said donations from those in Accra should be sent to the National Chief Imam or Sheikh Mustapha Ibrahim, Chairman of Islamic Council for Development and Humanitarian Services (ICODEHS) while those in the regions should send theirs to Regional Chief Imams for onwards transmission to the National Chief Imam.
