Govt still committed to development of the country -Churcher

Cape Coast, Dec. 31, GNA- Ms Christine Churcher, Member of Parliament for Cape Coast on Tuesday said it is only the NPP government that could bring development and positive change in the lives of Ghanaians.

She said the government has the developmental needs of the people at heart and that there was enough evidence to show government's commitment in that direction.

Ms Churcher said this at an NPP rally in Cape Coast on Tuesday and repeated her intension to re-contest the constituency seat. Ms Churcher, who is also the Minister of state in charge of basic, Secondary and Girl-child education, said considering what the government has done so far, it would only be proper for Ghanaians to reciprocate the gesture by voting it back in power to continue with its good work.

She denied rumours that she had deserted her constituency, adding that all the development projects being executed in the municipality were through her efforts.

According to Ms Churcher, she has also provided a total of 100 million cedis since 2001, to support the education of some students, as well as the provision of some projects, which include, toilets, bridges and storm-drains.

On her chances of retaining the seat, Ms Churcher said she "was sure to retain it and commended the people for their commitment and support for the party and government.

Mr Albert Essuman, Central Regional Secretary of the NPP, called for peace and unity among the rank and file of the party and urged them to ensure incident free elections next year.

Three people, Mr Joseph Cobbold, Mr Joseph Aggrey and Mr Steve Bay, who have defected from the NDC to join the NPP, were introduced to the gathering.

Mr Aggrey spokesman for the three, said they decided to join the party because they have realised that it is committed to the development of the country, and also appreciate the work Ms Churcher was doing in the area.
