Policy Think Tank IMANI Ghana says Virgin Atlantic Airlines' decision to suspend operation to Accra, sends wrong signals about the survival of multinationals in Ghana's economy.

Virgin Atlantic has announced to abandon operations in Ghana because of high aviation fuel costs. Transport Minister, Dzifa Attivor, has said government cannot do anything about the decision.

But Vice-President of IMANI Ghana, Kofi Bentil said Virgin Atlantic is one of the multinational foreign investments Ghana was able to attract to the country after many years of trying, and believes, it is bad for them to leave on such a note.

He said the situation is bad for Ghana's foreign investment reputation. “It sends a signal that multinational companies, foreign investors will not do well in our climate”, he Bentil said.

Kofi Bentil, suggests an exit meeting with the heads of Virgin Atlantic by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) so that government would in future, devise a good approach to such a "damaging blow".

This situation would not occur in a PPP Government. We would get to the bottom of whatever problems there are and find a solution before it gets out of hand, let alone into the media.Ghana no longer has planes of its own.Virgin Atlantic is one of the best airlines in the world; making investors feel more comfortable to travel to Accra than by other airlines.
