On the 17th of May, the Ambassador of France, Frédéric Clavier, presented to the Minister of Communication, Dr Omane Boamah, a guideline report on the use of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT).

By virtue of the decisions adopted by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), all African countries that have not already done so will adopt Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) at the latest by June 2015, as France did in November 2011.

This is because the switchover to digital and the end of analogue transmissions must be coordinated between countries if problems of interference are to be avoided.

The Ambassador of France said that the French institutions and French companies are seeking ways for Ghana to have the best technologies and are ready to work for the implantation of DTT in Ghana. He recalled that DTT would bring a beneficial economic surge for the country.

The transition represents effectively a fundamental change in terms of economics and development: the cost of the transition is high but the digital dividend means that it will generate revenue that is greater still. In France, this raised €3.5 billion, of which €2.6 billion related to the 800MHz band.

The Minister of Communication indicated that the new platform will serve as a source for job creation for the youth in the country.
