Immature Addison must be demoted as lead counsel – NDC man

A communications team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Gabby Assumeng has chastised lead counsel for the petitioners, Philip Addison for "showing crass disrespect" to the Justices of the Supreme Court.

He said lawyer Addison since the hearing of the President Election Petition began always behaved rudely anytime a ruling goes against him in court.

Gabby Assumeng was commenting on Philip Addison's persistence to continue his re-examination of the petitioners' key witness Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia after the presiding judge, Justice William Atuguba had ruled against him.

Mr. Addison said the conduct of the court is not in the interest of justice and amounted to curtailing his re-examination.

But Justice Atuguba peeved by the comment said he [Addison] cannot dictate to the bench.

On Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen Wednesday, Gabby Assumeng said Addison's conduct is an affront to the laws of the court.

According to him, the Justices of the Supreme Court must not gloss over such "insolence" but rather take punitive measures against Addison to serve as a deterrent to others in future.

Gabby Assumeng intimated that talking back at the Justice of the Supreme Court shows immaturity on the part of the petitioners lawyer.

He could not fathom why Addison who he claims takes delight in raising needless objections in court gets offended when the same thing is done to him.

The NDC man called on the petitioners to replace Addison with a more matured person like Akoto Ampaw to continue the case.

"I think the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should withdraw Addison; it will be in their own interest".
